COVID-19 INFORMATION

Safety has always been our number one priority and due to our second summer with COVID-19 we have made some additional changes.

This summer we have been asked to limit the crowd in the street when arriving and departing camp. To make this process easier, we ask that you meet us at the beach, not the van. Also, please park on Atlantic Ave or off the beach block when picking up your child to avoid getting a ticket and upsetting the residents.

We are also limiting our wetsuit sharing this summer due to Covid 19. We understand that surfing is a new sport for some and you’re not sure your child will take to it. We will include a wetsuit for the first week of camp but ask that you bring your own if signing up for more than one week. The water is usually warm enough in the summer months to surf with out a suit but the younger kids do tend to get chilly when on the beach for 4 hours. It’s totally optional but highly recommended for a more positive experience.

Private lessons will start as soon as soon as the weather gets a little warmer. Camps start June 21st 2021

Surfing is about having fun, building confidence, making friends, enjoying the outdoors, and of course loving the ocean. Our mission at Stacey’s Surf & Paddle is to ensure that everyone has a positive and safe ocean experience.

Stacey’s Surf & Paddle will be taking the following EXTRA precautions this summer:

1 Group sizes will be smaller

2 Safe social distancing will be practiced on the beach and in the water

3 Equipment will continue to be disinfected daily

4 Face coverings will be worn on the beach when within 6 feet of campers.

5 Hand sanitizer use will be required upon check in for all instructors.

5 You will be asked a series of questions about potential Covid 19 symptoms.

6 Temperatures will be takin daily. If you are feverish you will not be allowed to participate.

7. Please bring your own water and sunblock.

8. All participants must sign a waiver online before coming to the beach.

We will continue to be proactive and vigilant throughout the summer. Our goal is to spread the STOKE, not the virus!! See you in the water soon!

Your questions… Answered!

If my child has never surfed before, is this program for them?

Absolutely!! Our lessons always have a mix of first timers and experienced surfers. We specialize in teaching to your skill level. Our instructor to student ratio is 3:1 so everyone gets the attention they need.

Do kids attend more then one week?

Some kids stay all summer and return year after year. Most kids come for 2 weeks each summer.

Where do we meet?

We will meet on the beach between Pembroke and Quicny Avenue for all surfing and 9511 Amherst Ave for all Stand Up Paddle Boarding.

Where do we park?

There is plenty of street parking on Atlantic Ave. or any of the side streets. Beach block parking is not permitted in Margate and they will ticket you even if just for 5 minutes. Many kids and parents ride their bikes and lock them up at the bike racks.

What time is drop off for camp?

On every Monday we ask that you drop off your child at least 15 minutes early to get signed in and situated. The rest of the week a few minutes early is fine. Beginner camp will meet on Pembroke Ave. and intermediate/Advanced will meet on Quincy Ave.

What time is pick up?

Pick up is at 1pm sharp. Lunch is scheduled at the end of camp so the kids are out of the water and ready to go. We ask that you park off of the beach block and walk down to the beach to sign them out.

What do I need to bring for my child?

A bathing suit, sunscreen, a towel, water bottle, snack and lunch. We recommend wearing a rash guard or wet suit (when needed) if you already own them. If not, wetsuits will be provide but limited availability.

Do I need my own surf board?

No. We will provide you with any necessary equipment for surfing including a surfboard and wetsuit if needed. If you have a board, you are welcome to bring our own.

Can I bring my own surfboard and wetsuit?

Yes! We want you to get used to riding/wearing your own equipment. If we feel your board is not helping you advance we will give you one of ours to ride or recommend a new one for you. We strongly encourage you to bring your own wetsuit if you plan on being at the camp for more than a week.

My teenager wants to surf but doesn’t want to be with all little kids, do you separate them?

We get this question a lot and the teenagers never have a problem once they are with us. We want them to love their experience as much as the younger kids. We do separate them and once they are surfing, they realize the age doesn’t matter.

Are you certified and are the instructors trained?

YES! We are certified and recognized by the National Surf Schools & Instructors Association. Our instructors are trained under the NSSIA guidelines and CPR certified. Some are also lifeguards, educators, life long surfers, students and young professionals. All love to teach and love to share their passion of surfing.

How long have you been in business?

We are happy to announce this is our 14th summer. Most of our staff have been with us for years. We are supported by Heritage (local surf shop), the City of Margate and the community.  We get a lot of repeat customers and some of our students are now returning as instructors.  We absolutely love what we do and just want to share it.

What is your student to instructor ratio?

Our student to instructor ratio varies depending on the students ability level. If you are a first time surfer we try to keep a ratio of 3-1, in some cases 1-1. Students with existing surf skills have a higher ratio of student to instructor. All instructors have years of surfing/ teaching experience as well as CPR certification. Instructors are handpicked and trained under the NSSIA guidelines.

Will my child be surfing the entire 4 hours?

Surfing 4 hours straight in the water is a long time and unreasonable for most people.  To keep things safe, we take breaks, play games, stretch and hydrate. Our goal is to  introduce new kids to surfing and the surfing beach lifestyle. Safety is our number one concern and if we see the kids are getting tired, we mix it up.

What happens if it rains?

We surf rain or shine unless conditions are to dangerous, then we will reschedule or have camp inside. We do not give refunds due to weather and do our absolute best to accommodate make ups. Make up days will either be on the weekend or added hours to another camp. If you cannot attend the make up day, you must notify us BEFORE that day. Make ups must be done within the same year.

Can I cancel my lesson if something comes up?

If you need to cancel or make changes to your lesson, you must do so 15 hours prior to your lesson. That means, if you have a lesson scheduled for 3 kids and one child gets sick, you need to let us know the night before that only 2 kids will be attending the lesson. You will then be given a credit for the third child.  If you do not notify us by the 15 hour cutoff, or do not show up for your lesson/class, you will be charged the full amount.

When I have completed my lesson can I rent the equipment?

Yes. Surfboards are $25 for 1/2 day (4 hours).

What happens if I lose or damage rented equiptment?

If our equipment is lost during a rental, lesson or camp, it must be replaced to its full value. If equipment is damaged during a rental, lesson or camp, it must be replaced to the value of repair or full value price if it can not be fixed. Prices vary for different equipment but are generally priced as follows:

Surf Board : $300, Sup Board $600, Paddle $125, Leash $25, Wetsuit $200, Fins $20

Can I request my own instructor?

Yes, we always welcome requests for instructors. We cannot guarantee the instructors availability, but we’ll do our best to make it happen.

Should I tip my instructor?

Our instructors work hard to exceed your expectations and do their best to give you and/or your child an amazing experience. If at the end of your lesson you are pleased with the performance of your instructor, a gratuity is never expected but would be greatly appreciated. If attending the camp, parents will usually tip their instructor at the end of the week. If you are unsure of which instructor your child worked with, you may give tips to Stacey or Cassidy who will then be able to deal them out appropriately based on the schedule for their child's week.
